Lithium tetrafluoroborate is extensively utilized as an electrolyte in primary and secondary cells. It is used in rechargeable Li ion batteries. The electrolytes are non aqueous solutions of lithium tetrafluoroborate in the organic media.

Lithiumtetrafluoroborate is stable. It is incompatible with glass,acids and strong bases.
